Welcome to Zoom/Online and In-person Art Classes! I’m so excited you have decided to join us! Here is a list of materials we will be using in class.

I have found you can do a lot with just a few things when teaching and creating art, so have tried to keep these materials affordable for you without sacrificing quality! Hope this helps!

ALL MATERIALS (canvases, paints, brushes, etc) ARE INCLUDED WITH THE CLASSES for both IN-PERSON and ZOOM EXCEPT:

Materials NOT included but REQUIRED FOR BOTH IN-PERSON AND ZOOM CLASSES:

  1. 11 x 14″ mixed media sketchbook (Canson is my favorite brand but any brand of mixed media sketchbook should work as long as it specifies it accepts both wet and dry media and is 11 x 14 inches.)
  2. Colored pencils and a pencil sharpener (for younger/elementary students, any brand; older students/adults may wish to use Prismacolor brand.

NOT REQUIRED BUT RECOMMENDED FOR BOTH IN-PERSON AND ZOOM:

5. Watercolors (younger students can use any brand and even simple pan watercolors ; older students may wish to use Daniel Smith brand tube watercolors, pan watercolors (I like Faber-Castell pan watercolors for beginners shown below,) or any brand you like.)

6. Drawing Pencil and eraser (for younger students, any pencil will do; for older students, I recommend either a Prismacolor Ebony Drawing Pencil (get a Michaels or Hobby Lobby) or a Conte’ Drawing Pencil (below)

Conté Drawing Pencil Individual - 3B Black

Conté Drawing Pencil3B Black08684$2.79$1.91. You don’t need a whole set, just one Drawing Pencil with a soft lead (anything that is HB, 2B 3B, 4B or 6B) that gives you a nice range of values without having to buy a drawing pencil kit. If you have a drawing pencil kit, that of course is great too! (Older students may wish to have a complete set.)

ZOOM students will also need:

7. Water cup for rinsing brushes

8. Paper or styrofoam plate/palette to put the paints on or mix your paints on (even if you’re using watercolors in a pan)

9. Paper towels

OPTIONAL BUT NICE TO HAVE: Extra 11 x 14″ canvases (NOTE: canvases ARE provided and Zoomers can pick them up at my home studio the first Sunday of every month, but Zoomers can also just paint in their mixed media sketchbook with their watercolors or acrylics if they wish!) Extra canvases are just nice for the students to practice what they’ve learned in class or just explore painting on their own!

Also OPTIONAL BUT NICE TO HAVE: A medium for colored pencils – a medium helps the colored pencils blend. Younger students can use a colorless blender – OR rubbing alcohol with supervision; older students/adults can use Gamsol (odorless turpentine), a colorless blender, or rubbing alcohol.

You may purchase wish to follow the links I’ve provided if you prefer to shop online. These are the best prices I have found and I like the convenience of shopping online. You can also find them at your local craft store. Coupons are always helpful and often you can find them on the craft store’s app. Please make your material choices based on the age and experience of your child and your budget!

Here are some photos that might help you choose your supplies if you need guidance:

These are nice watercolors as the colors are very saturated for the price.
This sketchbook should take all sorts of media both dry and wet
